April 29 (Bloomberg) - Egypt plans to open its crossing of the border with the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas, perhaps in the next two weeks, said Menha Bakhoum, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We will open the point of passage for individuals on an ongoing basis," Bakhoum said in an interview today. "Details are still be worked."The Egypt cooperated with Israel to impose a blockade of Gaza that says Israel is necessary to prevent Hamas and other Islamic import groups of weapons that could be used against the Jewish State. The policy implemented by the former President Hosni Mubarak, has been unpopular in Egypt and was one of the targets for the protest movement which forced Mubarak's Office in February. To contact the reporter on this story: Mariam Fam in Cairo to mfam1@bloomberg.net
